After a four-year hiatus, the Pioneer Football League (U-15) is set to kick off today with a smaller number of clubs than it was last held in 2018.
Some 46 clubs, divided into five regions with two groups in each region, will compete in a round-robin format at five venues in Dhaka and Narayanganj. The top two teams from each of the 10 groups will advance to the final round of 20 teams.
Pioneer football federation committee vice-chairman Mohidur Rahman Miraz said: “Many clubs have lost interest in football as 53 teams entered the tournament. Six clubs have lost their eligibility due to competition. Over-aged players must undergo medical examination.” “About 1500 to 1600 players have undergone medical examinations with 980 players cleared.”
He also added that the final edition had 62 teams.
