Premier League player arrested on suspicion of rape

An international footballer who plays in the English Premier League has been arrested on suspicion of rape.

The Metropolitan Police arrested a 29-year-old man at an address in Barnet, London, on Monday after receiving a report of a rape of a woman in her 20s.

Officers said the incident is believed to have happened in June and they are continuing to investigate the circumstances.

The arrested man has not been named for legal reasons.

Police said in a statement: “On July 4, an allegation of rape of a woman in her 20s was reported to the police. According to reports, the allegation of rape occurred in June. year 2022.

“On July 4, a 29-year-old man was arrested at an address in Barnet on suspicion of rape and detained where he is still alive.”

The Daily Telegraph reports that they understand the man is a Premier League footballer who will play in the Qatar World Cup in November.

His arrest makes it unclear whether he will play in the club’s pre-season games starting next week before the first game of the 2022/23 Premier League season on August 5. The player’s position in upcoming international matches is also in doubt.
