Veteran Serbian midfielder Nemanja Matic announced on Friday that he will end his five-year stay at Manchester United at the end of the season.
The 33-year-old, who was signed from Chelsea by Jose Mourinho for £40m in July 2017, revealed that he had told caretaker manager Ralf Rangnick about his decision.
“After much thought, I have decided that this season will be my last with Manchester United,” he wrote on Instagram.
“It has been a great honor and a privilege to play for this great club. Deepest thanks to the fans for their unwavering support.
“Now I will give everything for the rest of the season to help my teammates finish as hard as I can.”
Matic has made 17 Premier League appearances this season and was in the starting XI for United’s final game, which ended in a 0-1 defeat to Everton.
In total, he has made over 180 appearances in all competitions.
