French centre-back Jules Kounde has agreed to a move to Barcelona from Sevilla, both clubs announced on Thursday, without giving details on the timing or cost of the move.

“FC Barcelona and Sevilla FC have reached an agreement for the transfer of Jules Olivier Kounde, pending the player’s medical examination and the signing of a contract,” the Catalan club said in a statement.

According to the Spanish press, the two clubs have signed a deal worth 50 million euros ($50.7 million) that includes an additional 10 million euros in bonuses.

This will be Barca’s fifth signing of pre-season following the arrivals of Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich and Raphinha from Leeds along with AC Milan’s Franck Kessie and Chelsea’s Danish midfielder Andreas Christensen on a free transfer. .

A deal between Chelsea and Sevilla appeared to have ended last weekend, but Spanish media highlighted the important role Barca coach Xavi Hernandez played in Kounde’s arrival.

The 23-year-old is recovering from groin surgery following surgery last month but is expected to be available at the start of the new season.

Kounde joined Sevilla in 2019 from Bordeaux. He won the Europa League in his first season in Spain, and made 11 caps for France.

Barcelona have also extended the contract of French winger Ousmane Dembele until 2024.
