WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson field hockey team (0-1, 0-0 NJAC) held an early lead, however, dropped their home opener to the FDU-Florham Devils (1-0, 0-0 MAC Freedom) 3-1 at Wightman Stadium Aug. 31.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
· Abigail Viola (Monroe Township, N.J./Monroe Township) scored in the 2nd minute from an assist from Super to give Pioneers an early lead
· FDU’s Cassidy Santorelli scored right before half time with a goal in the 30th minute
· A pair of FDU goals in the second half concluded the scoring
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
· Senior goalie Mallory Rickerhauser (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) recorded nine saves
· Three defensive saves by Shannon Super (Oaklyn, N.J./Collingswood) and Alexis Land (Monroe, N.J./Monroe Twp.), two and one respectively, strengthened the defense
