Mendy and co-defendant Louis Saha Matturie, who are out on bail, were excused from attending Friday’s hearing at Chester Crown Court. Mendy was charged with nine counts involving six victims, including seven counts of rape involving four women, one count of sexual assault and one count of attempted rape.
Mendy’s co-defendant, Louis Saha Matturie, 40, was charged with 10 counts, involving seven women, including seven counts of raping five women and three counts of sexual assault.
Mendy is accused of repeatedly raping women.
Mendy appeared at a brief hearing in February, where judge Mr Justice Thompson set a trial date. Mendy has yet to provide a defense for the charges. Judge Thompson then urged the attorneys to ensure no delay.
” This is unfair to the complainant and unfair to the defendant ,” he said.
Both defendants were released on bail in January after spending time in remand since they were first arrested on August 26 last year. Mendy has played for City since 2017 after arriving from Monaco for £52m. He was suspended by the club after being charged by the police.
