Mr. Alexandre Polking was not really confident when Thailand U23 did not have much time to prepare before the 31st SEA Games in Vietnam.

“I was really worried. At the AFF Cup, I only had a few days to work directly with the team. At that time, Madam Pang (Thailand’s football team leader – PV) worked hard for the team to call up good players. But the 31st SEA Games is different, we don’t have much time and the players are not really ready. We don’t have the strongest force, “ said Siam Sport, coach Polking.

U23 Thailand needs Suphanat Mueanta-class players. However, this is not easy because Suphanat is an important player at Buriram United club.

The problem with Thailand U23 at the moment is that they may not summon the best players because the 31st SEA Games takes place outside of FIFA Days. Madam Pang and the leader of the Thai Football Federation are trying to convince the clubs to let go. The goal of Thailand U23 in SEA Games 31 is the gold medal.

Worawut Srimaka, who will lead Thailand U23 in the AFC U23 Championship 2022, also shared: “I also think like Mano (nickname of Coach Polking – PV). Players are the most important factor. Thailand has the best players, the opportunity will open. The team can also be eliminated in the group stage. But if they want to win the gold medal, Thailand U23 needs help.”

“I will do my best to help Mano. I send him a list of 50 players, the best under-23s in the country. But to have the strongest force, we still need a nod from the club,” he said. Srimaka added.

Before that, Thai football had intended to send the U19s to the SEA Games to prepare for the long-term future. When changing this decision, Madam Pang apologized to the young players: “We do not send the U19 team because winning the SEA Games is extremely important.”

Thailand U23 is in Group B with Malaysia, Cambodia, Singapore and Laos. They want to clean up the defeat at the 2019 SEA Games, where coach Akira Nishino and Thailand U23 stopped in the group stage.
