MAHWAH, N.J.- A go-ahead layup with 0.9 seconds left in regulation by senior forward Brianna Brooks (Saddle Brook, N.J./Saddle Brook), gave the William Paterson women’s basketball team (2-3, 1-0 NJAC) a 64-62, New Jersey Athletic Conference win at Ramapo (3-1, 0-1 NJAC), Nov. 23.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Pioneers led 18-12 at the end of quarter one.
- The first-half ended in a 26-26 tie.
- Ramapo led by 11 with 6:32 left to play in the fourth, before a 15-5 run by the Pioneers cut the deficit to just one.
- A three pointer by junior guard Yakira Rosa (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) with 35 seconds left tied the game at 62.
- WP forced a turnover on the next possession, which led to Brianna Brooks (Saddle Brook, N.J./Saddle Brook) slicing through two defenders in the paint and hitting the game-winning layup.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Brooks finished with 16 points and three rebounds, securing her fourth straight game scoring in double figures.
- Senior forward Justina Cabezas (Carlstadt, N.J./Becton Regional) scored 22 points and had three rebounds.
- Senior forward Sierra Strong (Howell, N.J./Freehold Boro) grabbed eight boards.
- Rosa and freshman guard Victoria Palladino (Middletown, N.J./Middletown North) each added six rebounds.
